KDL Design & Storage have boosted their efficiency with a new gigabit broadband connection, thanks to the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme.

KDL supply and project manage the installation of mezzanine floors, pallet racking and shelving, helping companies to increase capacity, floor space efficiency and productivity with their innovative design and storage solutions for the warehouse, office and retail sector.

The Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme is a Government grant scheme which offers financial support to businesses that want to improve their internet connectivity. Company Director Damon Woodhouse realised that broadband access at their recently purchased Rotherham office was a problem, as the property relied on outdated ADSL (copper phone line) technology.

The slows speeds caused constant delays, Damon explains:

‘On an average day each employee based at the Manvers office would lose at least 45 minutes due to the connection.’

The poor connectivity meant that staff often had no choice but to work from home, leaving their new Rotherham office empty, costing the business money.

After speaking to BT, Damon was informed that the business could benefit from Government funding to improve the business’ connection by accessing the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme. The Voucher offsets the installation cost of a full fibre connection for businesses.

The business was able to claim £2,500 to help cover the installation costs of a gigabit-capable connection. KDL now enjoy a private leased line with speeds of up to 100Mbps. As the technology is gigabit-capable, KDL will have the option to go as fast as 1,000Mbps (1Gbps) if they decide to upgrade their package.

Damon says the Voucher has allowed KDL to ‘work quickly and efficiently’, with the business now making full use of its Rotherham office space.

Like many modern businesses, KDL use cloud-based software such as SharePoint and Office 365. This software relies on a fast and reliable connection for accessing, processing, and uploading vital documents. The new connection means KDL can now utilise these services to the fullest.

The Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme provides funding to businesses and residents toward the costs of connecting to gigabit-capable broadband. The Scheme provides vouchers of up to £2,500 for small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs), and £500 for residents to help with the costs of providing an Ultrafast connection to your address. This means that businesses can order gigabit capable connections from a broad range of suppliers.

Due to the huge popularity of the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme, the Voucher is now running out of funds so Superfast South Yorkshire is encouraging businesses to act now.

The Rural Gigabit Voucher Scheme is another broadband funding option that has plenty of funding available. This Scheme can boost the connection for residents and businesses in rural communities.
